At the Canadian Tint Expo & Competition, Canadian and American installers will meet on the same competition floor for the Canada vs USA Cross Border Showdown: a head-to-head tint battle built around national pride, shop reputation and the right to claim bragging rights across the border.
The event takes place at the Niagara Falls Convention Centre, 6815 Stanley Avenue, Niagara Falls, Ontario, bringing together more than 65 competitors, approximately 45 booths and 50 competition spots for one of the biggest professional tint and automotive appearance events in North America.

The Cross Border Showdown is designed around a simple question:
Which country produces the strongest tint installers under pressure?
This is shop versus shop, installer versus installer and country versus country. Canadian competitors will represent Team Canada while American installers cross the border to represent Team USA.

What happens during the Cross Border Clash?
The Cross Border Showdown runs Sunday PM as part of the main tint competition schedule. Competitors will work with equivalent glass, film, tools and working conditions to create a fair test of professional installation ability.
The challenges may include:
- Automotive side-window installation
- Film shrinking
- Rear-window installation
- Precision cutting and finishing
- Speed and quality challenges
The exact challenge details will be announced to competitors before the competition begins. What will not change is the pressure: limited time, official judging and a live audience watching every decision.
The best installers will need to balance speed with control. Moving quickly is not enough if the final installation contains contamination, excessive gaps, creases or poor edge finishing.
The skills that will decide the result
The Cross Border Clash is expected to test four core areas of production-ready tint work:
1. Speed
Installers must work efficiently and manage time without allowing pressure to affect their process. A fast installation that is incomplete or poorly finished will not outperform a clean, controlled installation completed within the official time limit.
2. Precision
Judges will look closely at edges, gaps, cuts, corners and overall consistency. Small details become highly visible under competition lighting and inspection.
3. Finish quality
Contamination, fingers, bubbles, creases, film damage and poor finishing can affect the score. The finished installation must meet a professional standard, not merely be completed.
4. Film handling under pressure
Competition conditions reveal how well an installer controls the material when there is no opportunity to restart. Shrinking, positioning, water removal and finishing all require a repeatable process.

How the scoreboard works across the four competitions

Each competition uses its own challenge format, but the scoring philosophy is consistent: professional execution matters more than speed alone.

The general judging framework places the greatest emphasis on installation quality, followed by precision, technique, completion and professional work practices. Penalties may apply for incomplete work, excessive contamination, unauthorized assistance, unsafe tool use or failure to follow officials’ instructions.
Individual performance becomes team scoring
The first three competitions identify individual champions in their respective disciplines. The Cross Border Showdown adds a team element.
Each completed challenge is evaluated by the official judging panel. Individual results contribute to the overall score for the competitor’s country. After the scheduled challenges are complete, the combined country score determines the winner.
That means every installer matters.
A single competitor cannot carry a country through reputation alone. Team Canada and Team USA will need consistent performances across the full showdown. Clean work, smart time management and strong finishes all contribute to the final result.
The country with the highest combined score will be named the 2027 Cross Border Showdown Champion.
