We’re making an important change to the 2027 Canadian Tint Expo & Competition in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
After reviewing our competition lineup and the direction of the automotive film industry, we have decided to remove the Wrap Competition and replace it with a dedicated Paint Protection Film (PPF) Competition.
The Canadian Tint Expo takes place April 3rd & 4th, 2027 at the Niagara Falls Convention Centre, bringing installers, shop owners, manufacturers, distributors and industry professionals together from across Canada, the United States and beyond.
Our goal from the beginning has been to build competitions that showcase real installation skill while helping raise standards throughout the industry.
We believe adding a PPF Installer Competition is the right next step.
Introducing the Canadian PPF Championships
PPF has become a major service for tint, detailing and automotive restyling businesses across North America.
The skill required to properly install PPF deserves its own stage.
The Canadian PPF Championships will give professional installers the opportunity to compete head-to-head in front of spectators, manufacturers, distributors and other installers.
This won't simply be about who can install film the fastest.
It will be about quality, precision, film management, cleanliness, finishing and professional installation technique.
How the PPF Competition Will Work
Our goal is to make the competition fair for installers while also making it exciting for spectators.
Competitors will work with standardized installation conditions and designated PPF provided for the competition.
Installers will be given the same or equivalent installation surfaces, patterns and time limits.
The competition is planned around two stages: Qualifying and the Championship Final.
ROUND 1: PPF QUALIFYING
Each competitor will be given a designated vehicle panel or installation surface and a predetermined amount of time to complete the installation.
The qualifying round will test the fundamentals that separate an average PPF installation from a professional one.
Competitors will be judged on a 100-point system:
Installation Quality & Clarity — 25 Points
Judges will examine the overall finished appearance of the installation, including clarity, trapped solution, visible imperfections and overall workmanship.
Edges & Finishing — 20 Points
Edges, corners and finishing work will be carefully inspected. Judges will look for clean, secure and professional finishing.
Stretch & Film Management — 15 Points
Installers must demonstrate proper control of the PPF without unnecessary stretching, distortion or tension.
Contamination Control — 15 Points
Dirt, debris, hair and other contamination trapped underneath the film will affect the competitor's score.
Alignment & Coverage — 10 Points
Patterns must be positioned correctly with proper coverage and consistent alignment.
Time Management — 10 Points
Competitors must demonstrate that they can work efficiently within the competition time limit.
Professionalism & Workstation Management — 5 Points
Organization, tool management, cleanliness and professional working practices will also be considered.
TOTAL POSSIBLE SCORE: 100 POINTS
The highest-scoring installers from qualifying will advance to the Championship Final.
THE PPF CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL
This is where the difficulty increases.
Finalists will face a more challenging installation designed to test advanced PPF skills.
This could include a difficult bumper, fender or another complex automotive panel requiring advanced stretch management, alignment, corner work and finishing.
Finalists will once again compete under the same conditions and within a defined time limit.
Final-round judging will place additional emphasis on advanced installation technique:
Overall Installation Quality — 30 Points
Stretch & Film Management — 20 Points
Edges, Corners & Finishing — 15 Points
Contamination Control — 15 Points
Pattern Placement & Coverage — 10 Points
Completion & Time Management — 5 Points
Professionalism — 5 Points
TOTAL POSSIBLE SCORE: 100 POINTS
The installer with the highest final-round score will become the Canadian PPF Champion.
Penalties & Installation Standards
We also want competitors to understand exactly what judges will be looking for.
Potential deductions may include:
• Visible dirt or contamination
• Fingers or tunnels remaining in the installation
• Lifted edges
• Poorly finished corners
• Film installed short of the required coverage area
• Excessive stretch or visible film distortion
• Poor alignment
• Incomplete installation when time expires
• Damage caused to the competition vehicle or panel
Serious damage to a vehicle or competition surface may result in a major penalty or disqualification.
Detailed official rules, time limits, judging procedures and penalties will be released to registered competitors before the event.
Quality Comes Before Speed
One of the most important principles behind this competition is simple:
This is not a race to see who can install PPF the fastest.
Speed matters in a professional installation environment, but speed should never replace quality.
An installer who finishes first but leaves contamination, fingers, poor edges or excessive stretch should not automatically beat an installer who takes longer and produces a significantly better finished product.
That's why the majority of available points will be based on installation quality and technique.
Equal Film. Equal Conditions. Installer vs. Installer.
We also want to remove as many outside variables as possible.
Competitors will use designated PPF supplied for the competition rather than competing with completely different film products.
The objective is simple:
Same film. Same challenge. Same clock. Different installers.
Then we find out who can deliver.

The Canadian Tint Expo was created to help bring the automotive film industry together.
We're not afraid to adjust the event when we believe something can make it stronger.
Window tinting, flat glass film and paint protection film represent a huge part of the community we're bringing together in Niagara Falls.
PPF installers deserve an opportunity to demonstrate their skills on a major competition stage.
Replacing the Wrap Competition with the Canadian PPF Championships allows us to create another highly technical competition that aligns closely with the installers, shops, manufacturers and distributors attending the Expo.
