The best window tinters do not prove themselves only when the shop is quiet and the schedule is under control. They prove themselves when the clock is running, the industry is watching and every decision matters.
That is the challenge of the Great Canadian Tint Battle, the flagship automotive window tint competition at the Canadian Tint Expo & Competition, taking place Sunday, April 4, 2027, at the Niagara Falls Convention Centre in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
With competitors coming from across Canada and the United States, this is a professional test of quality, speed, consistency, film handling and finishing skill. It is not simply a race to complete a window. It is a chance to demonstrate whether your work can meet the standard expected from a top-tier installer and a customer-ready shop.
What Is the Great Canadian Tint Battle?
The Great Canadian Tint Battle: listed in the official event materials as the Great Canadian Tint Competition: is a live, timed automotive window film competition for professional and qualified installers.
Competitors work under controlled conditions and complete assigned automotive tint installations using competition materials, designated work areas and official time limits. The strongest installers from the qualifying round advance to the championship round, where they compete for the title:
Great Canadian Tint Champion 2027
The competition is designed to reward professional execution rather than speed alone. A fast installation with contamination, inconsistent edges or visible defects will not outperform a clean, precise and well-finished installation.
The event’s official judging principles include:
- Installation quality and cleanliness
- Contamination control
- Edge and gap consistency
- Film handling
- Cutting and finishing
- Creases, fingers and installation defects
- Overall appearance
- Technique and precision
- Time management
- Work-area organization and professionalism
In other words, the Great Canadian Tint Battle asks a practical question: Can you deliver excellent work under pressure, just as you would for a demanding customer or high-volume dealership?
Who Should Enter the Tint Competition Canada Is Talking About?
The Great Canadian Tint Battle is built for installers who are ready to put their professional skills in front of the industry.
You should consider entering if you are:
An experienced automotive window tint installer
If you regularly install side windows, quarter windows, rear windows or other automotive film, the competition gives you an opportunity to measure your process against highly skilled installers from across North America.
A dealership or high-volume shop installer
Dealership work demands more than a good-looking occasional installation. It requires repeatability, organization and the ability to maintain quality while working through volume. Those same skills are central to competition success.
A shop owner or manager who wants to showcase your team
Entering an installer can generate recognition for the entire business. A strong performance creates content, conversation and credibility with customers, dealerships, suppliers and potential employees.
An ambitious installer ready for the next level
You do not have to wait until you consider yourself “the best” before entering. Competition can reveal where your process is strong and where you need to improve. It also gives you a clear benchmark for future training.
The Great Canadian Tint Battle is specifically focused on automotive window film. PPF installers, wrappers and detailers who also have strong tinting skills are welcome to enter the tint competition, while the event’s other competitions provide dedicated formats for their specialties.
How the Great Canadian Tint Battle Is Structured
The competition takes place on Sunday, April 4, 2027, during the Canadian Tint Expo & Competition at the Niagara Falls Convention Centre.
The qualifying round
Competitors complete a timed automotive tint installation challenge. Each installer receives an assigned installation area and must complete the work within the announced time limit.
Judges assess the installation using standardized criteria, including:
- Contamination
- Edge and gap consistency
- Creases and defects
- Film control
- Cutting technique
- Finishing quality
- Overall appearance
- Professional technique
- Completion within the allotted time
The highest-scoring competitors advance to the final.
The championship round
The finalists face a more extensive automotive installation challenge. This is where preparation, composure and a repeatable process become critical.
Finalists begin the championship round with a clean slate. Qualifying scores determine who advances, but they do not carry over into the championship score. The competitor with the highest final-round score becomes the Great Canadian Tint Champion 2027.
That format ensures the title is earned in the final: not inherited from an earlier performance.

What Are Competitors Judged On?
Quality comes before speed
The official judging framework places installation quality at the centre of the competition. Judges look for a clean, professional result that can withstand close inspection and different lighting conditions.
This includes contamination control, the absence of creases and fingers, accurate finishing and a consistent overall appearance.
Precision is visible at the edges
Edges and gaps reveal an installer’s control. Uneven margins, inconsistent cuts and poor finishing can make an otherwise acceptable installation look unfinished.
Competitors should expect judges to pay close attention to gap consistency, corners, cuts and edge work.
Film handling separates experienced installers
Professional film handling affects every stage of the installation. The way an installer positions, shrinks, cuts, handles and finishes the material can influence both quality and speed.
Unnecessary handling creates risk. Poor organization creates delays. A controlled process helps protect the film and the final result.
Time management matters: but it is not everything
The event is timed, and incomplete work may receive a penalty. However, the rules are deliberately designed to reward a professional-quality installation rather than the fastest unfinished job.
A strong competitor knows when to move quickly and when precision requires another moment of attention.
Professionalism is part of performance
The official scoring principles also consider organization, safety, cleanliness and professional working practices. A competition workstation should reflect the same discipline expected in a production shop.
That matters because a customer-ready finish begins with a customer-ready process.
How It Differs From the Other Competitions
The Canadian Tint Expo & Competition features four major competitions, but each one tests a different specialty.

Great Canadian Tint Battle : Sunday
This is the flagship automotive window tint competition. It focuses on automotive film installation, film handling, edge work, contamination control, finishing and performance under time pressure.
Flat Glass Battle : Saturday afternoon
The Flat Glass Championship is designed for residential and commercial window film installers. It tests measurement, glass preparation, film preparation, cutting, water removal, straightness, edge control and architectural film finishing.
It is not simply automotive tinting on a larger surface. The measurements, workflow and installation demands are different.
Wrap Battle : Saturday morning
The Wrap Competition focuses on vehicle wrapping. Competitors are judged on surface preparation, positioning, stretch management, corners, recesses, edges, wrinkles, cutting and finishing.
A strong tint installer is not automatically a strong wrapper. The Wrap Battle gives vehicle wrap specialists their own technical arena.
Canada vs. USA Cross Border Clash : Sunday afternoon
The Cross Border Showdown brings selected Canadian and American installers together in a team-based international competition. Challenges may include side-window installation, film shrinking, rear-window work, precision cutting and finishing.
Individual performances contribute to each country’s overall score. The objective is not only to win an individual round: it is to help Team Canada or Team USA claim the 2027 Cross Border Showdown title.

Why Enter the Great Canadian Tint Battle?
Build professional credibility
A competition result gives customers, shop owners and industry partners something concrete to recognize. “Experienced installer” is valuable. A documented performance at a major Canadian window tint expo is even more powerful.
Elevate your shop’s reputation
When an installer competes, the shop benefits too. Your business can show that it invests in skill, quality and professionalism: not just production volume.
Identify weaknesses in your process
Competition exposes details that are easy to overlook during routine work. You may discover that your preparation takes too long, your tools are not organized efficiently or your finishing process needs refinement.
Create new industry connections
The competition floor will bring together more than 65 competitors, 45 booths and 50 competition spots, along with manufacturers, distributors, shop owners and installers from Canada and the United States.
A competition weekend can lead to new supplier relationships, training opportunities, employment connections and business partnerships.
Earn recognition under real pressure
Winning is not the only measure of success. Showing up, completing the challenge and performing professionally in front of your peers can change how the industry sees you: and how you see your own abilities.
How to Prepare for the Niagara Falls Tint Event
Train with a clock
Run practice installations using a realistic time limit. Do not wait until competition day to discover how your process changes under pressure.
Track where time is spent: preparation, cutting, shrinking, positioning, water removal and final inspection.
Build a repeatable workflow
Avoid relying on improvisation. Prepare your tools in a consistent order, use the same contamination-control habits and create a finishing checklist.
The goal is to make quality repeatable.
Practice clean finishing
Inspect your work from different angles and under different lighting. Pay particular attention to edges, gaps, contamination, fingers, creases and final appearance.
Read the official rules
The event will provide final technical rules, time limits, supplied materials, approved tools, scorecards and advancement details before the competition. A mandatory competitor briefing will review the format, safety procedures, judging criteria and penalties.
Read the official competition rules and format, then attend the briefing prepared with questions.
